Nazi doctor Heinrich Gross dead

Vienna – The Nazi doctor Heinrich Gross is dead.  Gross died on 15 December at age 91 in Hollabrunn, Lower Austria, but it first became known on Thursday when he was buried.  Gross was thought to have taken part in the deaths of nine children in 1944 when he worked as a ward doctor at the infamous Vienna Euthanasia Clinic Am Spiegelgrund.  He was never formally charged.  In the past few years, Gross was repeatedly examined and proven to be unfit for trial on the basis of those examinations.  He reportedly suffered from dementia.  In his day, Gross was a well-known medical practitioner in Austria.  He was awarded the Theodor Koerner Prize for his research on childrenÂ’s brains, some of which came from the Nazi era, and even received the Cross of Honor for Science and Art, 1st class.  It wasnÂ’t until the end of the 70Â’s that GrossÂ’ Nazi past became a matter of discussion.  In spite of this, he remained active as a court medical expert until 1997.
